Посмотрел эту сцену до конца. Достаточно хорошая постановка боя. Кэмерон, как режиссер, интересно снял всю сцену. Самые эффектные моменты повторяются по десять раз, что придает фильму увеличение времени экшена (хороший ход). Как раз походит на последнюю битву в Аватаре. Похоже в последний момент после трейлера, Кэмерон приказал WETA изменить внешность Танатора, на более красивый. Мишель Родригес и Сигурни Уивер, достаточно эффектно дерутся, а уж встрявший в битву с танатором Джейк Салли выглядит просто потрясающе, его фанатки попадают в обморок в кинотеатрах при этой сцене, когда могучие лапы танатора рвут плечи Джейка. Работа оператора тоже на высоте. Явно видна новая технология. В общем, на премьеру все едем смотреть сие чудо в IMAX.

По моему мнению, самая хорошо смотрящаяся картинка из второй партии это племя Навийцев. Она более многослойна, и смотрится на ура.

Я большой поклонник творчества Кэма, Аватар жду с нетерпением. Жаль у нас в России таких режиссеров нет, впрочем подозреваю что если бы и был, то "Михалков и Ко" спокойно бы ему фильмы снимать не дали... Так вот, насчет Кэма: как-то по ТВ3 показывали фильм про него, а я толком посмотреть не успел, подскажите как он назывался и можно ли его найти в сети? Или на другие фильмы о нем ссылку киньте плиз... можно в личку, а то вдруг забанят

Q&A with Sigourney Weaver of “Avatar”

November 8, 2009 - Sigourney Weaver who has long been regarded as one of the best actresses working today, enjoying iconic status for her portrayal of Ellen Ripley in the Aliens franchise stars anew in “Avatar,” a sci-fi breakthrough from filmmaker James Cameron.

 

Touted to be the next gigantic blockbuster to come, the action in “Avatar” mostly takes place on a distant planet named Pandora. The Na’vi, blue skinned, indigenous population inhabits Pandora and are under threat from invading humans working for a huge conglomerate.

 

In the midst of hostilities is a small band of volunteers comprised of botanist Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) and marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) who are sent on a reconnaissance mission in genetically enhanced bodies, known as Avatars, which will give them the appearance of the Na’vi.

 

Q: Your character in Avatar is a scientist. Does she represent the voice of reason?

 

A: Well, actually she is in a pretty compromised position because she is trying to keep the Avatar program alive supported by money from the evil company.

 

Q: What was it like working on a film that is utilising so much new technology?

 

A: I loved it. You know, my husband runs this off Broadway theatre where we never have enough money for sets and costumes, so to me all the performance capture was just like being in his theatre. So I felt so at home in all of it. The camera is a little odd to get used to because it’s right here and you are thinking ‘now what kind of shot is that going to be?’ But I guess that’s just a way of keeping track of your facial expressions. It was an amazing experience.

 

Q: And is there a lot of action associated with the character?

 

A: I would say the majority of the action occurs with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Jake because he is learning from her how to do all these Na’vi things. And Grace comes in and out and has a different purpose. It was very satisfying.

 

Q: Do you share James Cameron’s fascination for space and exploration?

 

A: I guess so. My father was a great astronomer and I named my dog Venus after the planet. I used to think up space stories but I was never one of those people who loved reading science fiction. And when I think of a movie like Avatar I agree with Jim when he said ‘this is the movie as a 14 year old I wanted to see. It’s completely enthralling. I’ve never experienced anything like it.

 

Q: Did you get a lot of information about the world of Pandora, apart from the script?

 

A: We went to Hawaii and I worked side by side with a botanist. I learned how to take samples but then we had to make up a lot – we had things that we carried for testing the air, measuring it, and for gasses and things like that. So there is science in the film and we were pretty serious about it. Grace is very particular, you know, she did remind me of people like Dian Fossey who were so single-minded and they didn’t really care about anything else or anyone else.

 

Q: Would you say that one of the movies themes is the environment and what’s happening to our own planet?

 

A: Definitely a character in the story and a big character in our world now is greed. And greed, what with the economic downturn and everything, at least in America, has become a big character in the last year. It is about people trusting nature, understanding nature, being connected to each other and connected to animals. It’s an entertaining movie in every way – it has huge romance; it has a lot of comedy in it; it has a lot of action in it; and it’s about something much bigger than all of these people.

 

It’s also very timely so hopefully people will think about what they have seen but I don’t think it can possibly get in the way of the experience of being in the theatre because there won’t be time – audiences will be on that rollercoaster.

 

Q: How do you think the audience will react to Avatar?

 

A: I think as soon as you sit down you will be taken far, far away and I think that’s something we all love. You sit there in your seat, the music starts and you know that someone is going to be taking care of you. And I really feel that way with Avatar.

 

Weaver also starred in Ang Lee’s tense drama ”The Ice Storm,” the comedy “Galaxy Quest,” the contemporary thriller “Copycat” and many more including “Ghostbusters,” “A Map of the World,” “Snow Cake,” “The Girl in the Park” and “Be Kind Rewind.”

November 8, 2009 - James Cameron gets an intense, visceral thrill from being in the vanguard of technological innovation. “It’s the same gene that makes me want to explore under the ocean, see things people haven’t seen before and bring them back with my tail wagging to show everybody,” he says.

 

Cameron introduced the first “motion capture” characters, in Total Recall, and the first human movements on a CGI (computer-generated imagery) character in Terminator 2; and he has again been working at the boundaries of digital technology to create the imaginary world and characters in Avatar.

 

Cameron and his technical collaborators — in particular Weta Digital, the New Zealand-based visual-effects studio owned by Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy — were reinventing the technological wheel as they were working on the film, which took four years to make. Although about two-thirds of Avatar has been created by a bank of computers — a virtual world — it was also filmed as a live-action shoot. The actors worked both on conventional sets and against “green screen” backgrounds, with the computers transforming them — in real time — into their Avatar characters.

 

Cameron believes that, for the most part, it will be impossible for audiences to tell what is real and what is virtual. “The film is the first true hybrid,” he says, “the most complicated thing I have ever done.” So, while the cinematic world of Pandora, the distant moon where most of the film takes place, is both computer-generated and real, the main characters, including Jake’s Avatar, and Neytiri, the blue, 10ft tall Na’vi princess he falls in love with, are acted by humans, their performances translated into CGI form.

 

The challenge, says Jon Landau, Cameron’s long-time producer, was to make those CGI characters “engaging and emotive. The real problem, for us, was creating the fidelity of a facial performance for the Avatar and Na’vi characters, creating a window into the soul through the eyes”. In previous CGI films, facial expression was captured by putting scores of tiny reflective markers on an actor’s face, which were reinterpreted by a computer into the facial expressions of the CGI character.

 

Gollum, in The Lord of the Rings, for example, was created in this way. Unfortunately, the results have never been great when CGI characters are meant to express human emotion. Film-makers call the gulf between normal human expression and the expression of CGI characters the “uncanny valley”, which Cameron rightly says “creates this creepiness”. What he wanted was a “pure translation of the actor’s facial performance” into CGI characters such as Jake’s Avatar. So Cameron and his team spent the first year and a half of the production process perfecting a facial-performance-capture system.

 

The principal actors wore special head rigs fitted with tiny cameras just inches from their faces, which caught every minuscule facial motion, even their dilating pupils. As Cameron likes to say, “Actors don’t do motion. They do emotion” — emotion that is consciously and subconsciously read by us human beings. Those millions of minute facial movements were reinterpreted by Weta Digital into the expressions of the characters. “It’s the 21st-century version of prosthetics,” Landau says.

 

The other significant technological advance for Avatar was that Cameron was able to direct and interact with the actors as they were performing. They worked on a large digital stage called the “performance capture volume”. As the cameras on their heads captured their facial expressions, the actors wore black bodysuits covered with reflective white dots that allowed dozens of cameras on the ceiling to track their bodily movements.

 

The innovation was that all this visual information was translated by computers, in real time, into the movements of the CGI characters and fed into a virtual camera monitor — called a Simulcam — that Cameron could use on the stage to see exactly what was being shot, as if he were watching an approximation of the finished film. He then had a real-time view of the superimposition of live action into virtual characters, some 10ft tall, in real and CGI settings.

 

Beyond that, what audiences are most likely to be aware of are the very latest 3-D effects Avatar will showcase. (The film will also be screened in 2-D in many theatres.) All the live action was shot with a new, lightweight digital 3-D camera system called Fusion, developed by Cameron and his camera whiz, Vince Pace. “3-D offers an experience which is very inclusive of the audience,” says Cameron, who vows to make all his future films in 3-D. “You get to step right into the scene. It takes that big flat screen from being a picture on a wall to being a window into another reality.”

 

And he’s right. I’ve seen about 25 minutes of Avatar, and the 3-D effects are both stunning and immersive, without ever being gimmicky. Despite these incredible technological advances, all of which delight him, Cameron admits that cinemagoers don’t really care about technology. “When somebody is sitting in a movie theatre and the lights go down, they couldn’t give a rat’s butt how the film is made. They just want to be swept along and taken on some magic carpet ride. And really, the less they know about how it's done, the better.”

Именно поэтому я никогда не смотрю "Мейк Офф'ы" разные и так далее.

Хм... Грубо говоря если ты не знаешь как и из чего готовиться сие блюдо ты так и не познаешь всего вкуса Ну если ты "ГУРМАН"... Так интереснее... Ведь ты на эту тему зачем то заходишь... А вот зачем...???
