For starters, how exactly is Isabelle Fuhrman, who’s now 24 years old, going to play Esther on screen again, a character who looks like a child despite actually being an adult woman?

 

“For me it’s like, we know the secret of the first film, so the fun of bringing Isabelle Fuhrman back into the role – which was a whole process to get approved – that is a challenge in and of itself,” Brent Bell explains the process to the Boo Crew. “And likewise, not doing modern CGI… I mean, we use digital, we use CGI to help us… but not to create her at all. It’s all old school techniques: forced perspective, camera angles, where we put the light.”

 

He continues, “That’s a character that I love so much [and] I really want to be respectful to the audience who love that first film, and expand on who she is as a character. To be able to kind of understand her better. But at the same time have as much fun with her as we did in the first movie… and then some. And to have it be Isabelle again… it’s so cool.”

 

Brent Bell also teased the overall tone of the upcoming prequel.

 

“The movie has a very childlike quality in some ways, but it’s also extremely violent at other times. Because she’s a violent psychopath. The movie is turning out just awesome. [Esther] is this very romantic person who so much wants love and then when she doesn’t get it, a different side of her comes out. And it’s brutal. So the movie really plays both of those sides really well. So it has a really big heart for her, but it also has a real… super dark side.”

 

“We’re right in the final stages of finishing the movie,” he adds.

Fuhrman promised that Orphan: First Kill is "definitely not what I think most people will expect, which I think is really exciting and what really drew me to even coming back to play that role. And also, what I think is most exciting about it is it's something that's never been done cinematically. There's never been an adult actress who reprised a role she played as child. And that was exceptionally difficult and really fun to do, because when I was a kid and I played Esther, I was constantly playing a 33-year-old hiding herself as a kid while I was also 10, and this time, it was like, 'here's a little weight off my shoulders,' since I just have to pretend I'm 10, because I'm already an adult."

"It was really cool to be back on that [Orphan] set. I think people will be shocked by that story. It's very different from what most people would expect and Julia [stiles] is absolutely incredible in it, and we had a lot of fun making the movie together. It's definitely a story about the two of us and our relationship, and Esther's way that she came to the United States and how she found herself there," explained Fuhrman.

Isabelle Fuhrman on Reprising Esther Role Without VFX or Special Makeup

Isabelle Fuhrman is reprising her famous role of nine-year-old Esther from 2009’s Orphan in the upcoming prequel Orphan: First Kill. But instead of Fuhrman playing an older version of the iconic character, she will once again play the nine-year-old, without any de-aging work or CGI, which she calls “a challenge.”

 

“I love the challenge of being able to play a kid because that’s never historically been done in cinema — I was like looking all this up, because I love looking up old movie history and things like that, and I was like, ‘Oh, an adult has never reprised the role that they played as a child,'” Furhman tells THR. “Will Smith, for example, recently did that movie [Gemini Man] where they de-age somebody, but to reprise a role that you literally did as a kid as an adult has never been done before. It’s kind of impossible. And we did it. We didn’t use special effects, we didn’t use any crazy makeup tricks. And I think that’s what makes the movie work, is because you really can’t figure out how I look like a [9-year-old], but I do. And it’s really creepy.”

Опять тот же самый сюжет что ли? Фурман на девочку уже не похожа, как-то нелепо выглядит.

безусловно, бессмысленный приквел-ориджин, но как же завернули! даже не пожалел, что в кино пошёл. оч циничная херь, чёрного юмора достаточно, редкий пример предсказуемого твиста в непредсказуемом воплощении. больше всего переживал за крыску,

одновременно и доволен, и огорчён его смертью - умерла с позволения Эстер-Лины, но причина смерти лежит на убийцу реальной Эстер. вообще, забавно, что кино даже умудряется пробовать заставить драматически сопереживать Лине, хотя она сама не подарок, и в противовес ставят совсем уж конченных, что Лина кажется цветочком.)) идёт в плюс, очевидная фига в кармане, которая сработала.

местами Фурман хорошо походит на себя десятилетнюю, но поверить до конца невозможно, настолько выросла, её в полный рост показывают исключительно со спины)) тем не менее, написали достаточно забавных моментов с ней, особенно от машины угорел

 

лучший фильм бракодела, очевидно проигрывает оригиналу, но тем не менее превзошло все ожидания, а это уже чото значит, ок

Специально не смотрел трейлеров, поэтому пошел в кино толком не зная что ожидать. Ибо как мне казалось из приквела сделать что-то стоящее сложно в данном случае.

Но авторам фильма это удалось - получилась весьма любопытная история, местами на грани трэша даже, но это только в плюс в данном случае.

Фурман очень хороша - если в прошлой раз ей нужно было играть героиню сильно старше своего возраста, то теперь она как раз таки практически нужного возраста - интересный контраст получился. И даже не берусь сказать в каком фильме она мне больше понравилась.

Вообщем фильм сильно отличается от оригинала, но по своему хорош, я остался доволен просмотром.

 

Теперь видимо должны снять приквел приквела - о том как она оказалась в этой эстонской психушке))

 

И да я единственное понял - почему если ее нашли в Эстонии далее родители ее в России забирали? В чем прикол тут?

Релизнулось на Paramount+

Долго раскачивается и до поры до времени сильно смахивает на второсортный direct-to-dvd шлак, но со второй половины наконец становится ясно ради чего это все затевалось. В итоге имеем забавынй кэмп в духе угарных эпизодов AHS с щепоткой сатиры и кивками в сторону What ever happened to Baby Jane

Уильям Брент Белл не исключает съемок третьего фильма

Speaking with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast, First Kill director William Brent Bell discussed the potential for more Esther stories down the road. Of course, it all depends on how well First Kill is received, both financially and critically, but would Brent Bell return to the world of Esther if given the chance? And what would it take to bring him back for Orphan 3? For starters, he would only make another one if Isabelle Fuhrman came back.

“I would never do it if Isabelle didn’t do it. And it would also have to be a really cool script. We talked… we joked about everything. There’s 30 years of her life [that we haven’t explored]. And there’s so much life experience that we can play with. And I think because of the tone of this movie, we can go darker and lighter. Make her more in-charge, and evil, but also have even more fun at times. So of course there is [potential there].”

What about a direct sequel to the first Orphan? Esther drowns in a lake at the end of the 2009 movie, but Brent Bell notes during his chat with The Boo Crew that undoing that conclusion for the character would be easy. Should the studio want to go in that direction, the third film could kick off with Esther’s hand “coming up out of the water at the beginning of the movie.”

 

Brent Bell even jokes with The Boo Crew about a future sequel centered on “Esther in space,” using it as a humorous example of a line he’s not willing to cross with the franchise.
