Before I say anything about the movie, I would like to say for those who are skeptical of going due to the bad reviews: Don't be. The movie reviews from fans and critics alike, to me, should not be your deciding factor.
There will be spoilers so be warned!
The Last Airbender was an awesome movie. I honestly can say this and would like to pat M. Night Shyamalan on the back, for he kept true to the series. It was quick and to the point. All the scenes are bits of episodes I have seen in the animated series, and I loved it. Yes there were changes, but for the most part, the story was there.
Aang still traveled to the Western Air Temple, and went into Avatar mode. They met the prisoners of the Earthbenders and helped them fight back. Aang got captured and Blue Spirit saved him. The gang went to the north pole, Zuko broke in and captured Aang (even talked about his childhood!) and the action begins!
I was very pleased with that because it made me remember the animated series that I love.
The acting was pretty good. I loved Dev Patel as Zuko and the person who played Iroh. I loved Noah Ringer and Jackson Rathbone, they were pretty good. Noah Ringer could use some acting lessons since he is a newcomer, but I thought he did a good job!
To those people who said there weren't any character development, I think that was the intention. With all of the stuff that is going on and how M. Night tried to include everything, it was very hard to establish any relationship with the characters, especially Katara and Aang. They seemed like acquaintances at the end. But its forgivable because I understood why it had to be that way. I mean c'mon, we can't have Aang and Katara penguin sliding and have that fun bond in the beginning now can we? That would be wasteful. I think Katara's narrating is pretty good.
The effects and action were AWESOME. That is all.
Of course, I will agree the running time and the pacing needs work. But I'll leave it at that.
The script....needs work also.
Final thought: I loved this movie. I am going to watch it again. It was a great experience too since the audience in my theater were laughing and clapping. It was awesome!
I think I heard someone said "Dang she looks creepy" at the last scene with Azula, .
Sorry this is my first ever review of ANY movie. But seeing the number of negative reviews out there, I want to give you guys my thoughts.
