Непонятно, кстати, что здесь делает The Sound Barrier - лауреат БАФТы в ЛФ, лауреат Оскара. Скучнейший фильм, кстати.

Не знаю. За 5 лет существования категории Independent там был только один номинант не из оскаровского сезона - "This Magnificent Cake" в сезоне 2018го (попал в оскаровский лонг-лист в сезоне 2019го).

 

На их сайте написано:

 

Entries submitted for consideration must be from productions that were released or aired in the United States between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

 

An exception will be made for animated special projects, short subjects (including VR productions), sponsored productions, and student films that were not released in the United States. These may be considered for an Annie Award, providing they were originally released during the award eligibility period anywhere in the world.

 

A further exception will be allowed for Annie Award official film festival partners: Annecy International Animation Film Festival, International Animation Festival Hiroshima, Ottawa International Animation Festival, and Animafest Zagreb. Grand Prize winners from these film festival partners may submit their winning films in the corresponding Production categories without incurring entry fees.

Думал, что "Суд над чикагской семеркой" не номинируют, так как в пролет Мулана не верил, а прокатили Эмму в итоге)
